CALIBER PERFORMANCE
The 5.56 NATO cartridge excels in the AR-15 platform through its optimal combination of performance and practicality. Its high velocity (2,700-3,200 fps) delivers a flat trajectory effective to 500+ yards, while its low recoil enables rapid follow-up shots and extended training sessions. The cartridge's lightweight design allows users to carry more ammunition, with standard 30-round magazines maintaining manageable dimensions. The 5.56 NATO perfectly complements the AR-15's direct impingement system for reliable cycling, offers excellent barrel longevity of 10,000-20,000 rounds, and provides economic benefits through widespread availability and affordable training costs compared to larger calibers.
The 6mm ARC excels in the AR-15 platform with its impressive long-range capabilities and power-to-size ratio. It "remains supersonic beyond 1,000 yards in a standard atmosphere" while fitting in a standard AR-15 action with reliable feeding from 17-24 round magazines. Meanwhile, the 22 ARC offers exceptional ballistic performance in a smaller package, delivering trajectories "rivaling the oft lauded .22/250 Remington" while maintaining accuracy at extended ranges. Both cartridges utilize high ballistic coefficient bullets that maintain energy and resist wind drift far better than traditional AR-15 cartridges, with the 22 ARC specifically designed for "long, heavy bullets with high ballistic coefficients" while maintaining reliable operation in the AR-15 platform.
The 300 Blackout cartridge excels in the AR-15 platform through its remarkable versatility and minimal conversion requirements. It requires only a barrel change to convert a traditional AR-15 rifle from 5.56 NATO while using standard magazines and components. Its dual-purpose nature allows shooters to switch between supersonic loads (110-150 grains) for increased power and range, and subsonic loads (190-220 grains) that deliver exceptional suppressed performance. When suppressed with subsonic ammunition, it achieves remarkable quietness. The cartridge delivers superior terminal performance from short barrels compared to 5.56 NATO, making it more lethal than 5.56 and 9mm when fired out of short-barrels while providing effective ballistics at ranges up to 300 yards with supersonic loads.
The 350 Legend excels as a purpose-built straight-wall cartridge offering impressive versatility in the AR-15 platform with minimal modifications required. Winchester designed it with a .35 inch projectile built into a modified .223 Remington case that maintains compatibility with standard AR-15 components except for the upper receiver and magazines. As the fastest production straight-walled hunting cartridge, it delivers effective terminal ballistics on deer out to 200 yards while generating less recoil than a .243 Winchester. The cartridge's primary advantage is compliance with hunting regulations in states requiring straight-wall cartridges, offering superior ballistics to many of its competitors with better energy, range, and less recoil compared to its contemporaries. This combination of regulatory compliance, manageable recoil, and effective terminal performance in a versatile platform makes it particularly valuable for hunters in restricted states and those seeking a low-recoil option for medium-sized game.
The .450 Bushmaster cartridge excels as a powerful straight-walled option for the AR-15 platform, delivering impressive terminal ballistics for medium to large game hunting. Originally developed for the "Thumper concept" to provide one-shot kills on big-game animals at 250 yards, it offers significant stopping power in a compatible AR-15 package. Its straight-walled design makes it legal for deer hunting in Midwestern states with cartridge restrictions, maintaining energy over 1,000 foot-pounds after 200 yards for ethical harvests. The cartridge essentially duplicates the performance of the outstanding 45-70 Government while fitting in an AR-15 platform, requiring only a barrel, bolt, and magazine follower change for conversion. While recoil is substantial, it can be managed with appropriate muzzle devices and buffer systems, making the .450 Bushmaster an excellent choice for hunters seeking powerful terminal performance from a familiar and adaptable platform within 250 yards.
The Bilson Arms BA-15FC in .338 ARC is a powerhouse rifle built for those who demand both performance and innovation. Designed and manufactured in Louisiana, it features Bilson’s signature forward-charging system and offers big-bore firepower in a precision-built platform. The BA-15FC comes with a 16" barrel, available in either 4150/4151 CrMoV steel or 416R stainless steel, with a 1:8 twist rate ideal for stabilizing heavy .338 projectiles. Its pistol-length gas system and direct impingement design ensure smooth, reliable cycling. Precision-machined billet aluminum receivers provide a zero-play fit between the upper and lower, maximizing both accuracy and durability. The rifle includes a free-floating M-Lok handguard for versatile attachments, and comes standard with B5 Systems furniture for ergonomic comfort and reliability. Available in tactical black or custom two-tone Cerakote finishes, the BA-15FC is equally at home on the hunt or at the range.
